Some may or may not know it, but former Sopranos star and entrepreneur, Joe Gannascoli, is one of the bigger New York Giants fans out there. And the actor was recently asked about his team’s status entering the 2019 NFL Draft.

Despite the fact that the Giants have still not found Eli Manning’s heir apparent, many fans, including Gannascoli, are split on the team drafting a quarterback this year.

“I don’t want a quarterback,” Gannascoli told MSG Network. “I’m not sure about [Dwayne] Haskins, I don’t know about [Duke quarterback] Daniel Jones. I already have a bad taste in my mouth from Dave Brown. I trust Gettleman has a real feel for the talent. I really want an edge rusher.”

In fact, Gannascoli wants the Giants to snag a defender with each of their first rounders. It’s no secret the Giants had problems on the defensive side of the ball last year.

“I don’t think [Quinnen] Williams will be there when we draft at six. I know my friend [New York Post NFL columnist] Steve Serby likes Christian Wilkins. I’m big on Montez Sweat then I heard he has a little trouble with the heart condition,” Gannascoli added. “Rashan Gary…I like guys with arm length. Super quick, which Montez is, and fast. His length is imposing. We need a dominant force on the edge to disrupt. Now at [No. 17], again I go with defense. Maybe you take Wilkins there.”

Gannascoli isn’t alone in the thought that the quarterback of the future isn’t in this draft. If the Giants get some playmakers on defense, it’s not crazy to think the they could improve upon their record from last year.

Gannascoli didn’t rule out a trade for Josh Rosen (should Arizona decide to draft Kyler Murray) in exchange for “a Day 2 pick.”

At this time last year, we had a pretty good idea that the Giants would draft Saquon Barkley, but it looks like we are going to have to wait a little longer to see what the Giants’ front office is going to decide with their picks in the first round.
